RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE TOASTED COCONUT
The Toasted Coconut is a Island themed bar and restaurant located in the Montrose area of Houston, Texas. Husband and wife team Martin and Sara Stayer of Nobie’s Restaurant opened the doors of The Toasted Coconut in 2019. The menu boasts innovative cocktails that mesh tropical fruits with lighter spirits as well as shareable plates sure to satisfy your palate.
Whether you choose to sit in the chic designed interior or sit amongst tropical plants or water fall fountain under the straw hut covered patio, the island themes is apparent. While The Toasted Coconut is widely talked about for the delicious and Instagrammable cocktails, the food is not a miss. For brunch the table got a Banana Daquiri, Baja Mussels, Pork Dumplings, and the Whole Fish.
Our waiter informed us that the Banana Daquiri was the second strongest drink on the menu. The delicate flavor of Banana was cut by the boldness of the whiskey. If you are not a whiskey fan, you may want to avoid this drink. For starters we got the Baja Mussels and Pork Dumplings. The mussels were flavorful but not spicy. The true highlight of the meal was the pork dumplings whose house chili oil sauce provided a one of a kind flavor, so much so, that we ordered another round. For the main course we got the seasonal Whole Fish, which on this visit was redfish. The whole fish is gutted removing most of its bones leaving just enough to maintain the structural integrity of the fish. It is fried and garnished with salsa mocha, shaved vegetable salad, and house corn tortillas. The fish was enough to share between 3-4 people.
